Biography

Laura completed an MA at UCA Canterbury in 2023 and is currently engaged in the AA2A residency programme 23-24 at York St John University.

She is interested in exploring the interplay between different architectural and spatial elements such as surface, depth and form and how these elements can be manipulated to disrupt the viewer’s spatial perception, orientation and experience.

Working in a minimalist vein, she employs various mediums and techniques, in particular waxed paper, sewing patterns and wooden frames: materials that possess unique tactile and sensory qualities but also enable her to use line and colour to create journeys through, into and around the work. In some works she also uses multichannel sound, often drawing on the sounds of a particular space or the materials used, to enhance the spatial and sensory experience of the viewer.

Drawing on the qualities of the materials used, Laura creates different forms of art which include large installations, wall-based works and sound art. Some work is site-specific and is integrated into the architectural elements of the building, creating elements of surprise and at times an oscillating relationship between enveloping and being enveloped.

Viewers are invited to engage with the interplay of form and space. Laura is interested in how different spaces, places and the arrangements of objects in space affect both our physical and emotional responses in both conceptual and sensory ways.
