Denise Bryan MRSS

Bryan's studio increasingly resembles a Scrap Store, she can’t stop collecting things that have the potential to become objects: sculptures that have been described as “Hands on Conceptualism”. The materials used to create these sculptures always have a conceptual value that underpins the work, but are also exploited for their visual qualities, colour and form. Once created, the artist explores the relationship between sculptural forms and photographic or video image and sound. As the collections, including the sound and lens based components, are often collected whilst travelling, the works act as a narrative of personal experience and in a broader sense the pieces interrogate our relationship to the exotic.
