Working as a full-time sculptor, Marina Lascaris’s practice stems from two main sources; Greece, her birthplace and Mexico where she has been living since 1976. Both these places have important mythological beliefs and traditions. Her work is abstract in its language, and organic in its shapes.
"A sculpture starting with a little wax weighing no more than 10 grams? Quite a challenge! But does not the birth of most living beings start from just a tiny seed? It will develop in the right environment; be it earth or womb. This little sculpture refers to fertility. The vulva and the body with child. The work of Venus."
