John stopped teaching in 1977 to practice sculpture full-time and continues to do so. He has concentrated on exhibitions and commissions on an international basis, including the monument to ‘The Women of World War II’, Whitehall, London, unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II in 2005. John's most recent exhibition was a retrospective at The Gibberd Gallery, Harlow in Essex during the summer of 2011.

John received an honorary PhD from the University of Surrey in 2020.
