Description

Join sculptor Jo Grogan at Dora House, once a Victorian portrait photographers’ studio now home to the Royal Society of Sculptors, for an evening of playful exploration as Jo guides you through making a miniature clay portrait head.

Please bring with you an image (this can be on your phone) of a person or animal you would like to sculpt, this may be a loved one, a famous person, a pet, or your favourite animal. It is useful to have an emotional connection in some capacity to your subject matter; this could mean that you love them, they inspire you, or you find them repulsive!

This class is a fully immersive hands-on experience where you will get the opportunity to learn some of the basic principles of portrait sculpture in a relaxed and fun environment.

Our focus will be to capture emotion, character and expression, using a variety of techniques. I will show you how to create facial features and how to manipulate the clay to create expression.

This class is not about creating perfect portrait sculptures, it is about having fun, using your feelings, connecting with a material, and expressing yourself. It is great for all levels, you do not need any prior training working with clay or portraiture to participate.

All materials will be supplied but if you have any sketchbooks/colouring pens/pencils/modelling tools please feel free to bring them along.

Please note that a strict no refund policy applies to ticket purchases.
