Our Sculptors Exhibitions
From 25 July to 12 September 2021, the Galerie der Stadt Tuttlingen will show a retrospective exhibition exploring the theme of the “Relief” in works by Bernar Venet dating from 1961 through to the present day. Venet is regarded as one of the pioneers of Conceptual Art in the 1960s who developed a new approach by incorporating mathematics and scientific language into his art. His Cardboard Reliefs from the early 1960s form part of the exhibition, as well as examples of series developed in the following 50 years which have gained him great respect as an innovator. The wooden reliefs dating from the late 70s and early 80s – Arcs, Angles and Straight Lines – play an important role, as do his Indeterminate Lines begun in 1979 and continued in different forms in the 80s and 90s. In the period after the turn of the millennium these were followed by the so-called Gribs (a shortening of ‘gribouillage’ or ‘scribble’ in his native French), and subsequently by his Continuous Curves, an impressive example of which is included in the exhibition.
