Description

Taking inspiration from her native Senegal, join Tabara N’Diaye of La Basketry on this interactive workshop via Zoom where you will learn how to weave a beautiful mini-basket. Learn how to use the coiling technique, achieved by wrapping raffia paper with a needle around the core material – a bundle of seagrass.

This event is organised by Yodomo Ltd and inspired by our Thread residency programme, in partnership with the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. Thread is a residency program and cultural center that allows local and international artists to live and work in Sinthian, a rural village in Tambacounda, the southeastern region of Senegal. It houses two artists’ dwellings, as well as ample indoor and outdoor studio space.

This online class is open to beginners and a kit of materials will be sent out before the event starts. Please note: the final date to mail out kits is Monday 14th September.

Your Teacher: Tabara N’Diaye is the author of ‘Baskets’, a craft book released in May 2019 demystifying the art of basket-making for makers at all levels with projects ranging from coasters to basket bags. She is also the founder of La Basketry, a lifestyle brand offering baskets and home accessories designed in collaboration with a group of female artisans in Senegal.
